What we do is very simple. Lobby MPs to remove the ID Card Act from the books. It can't be built as a government project today and is too dangerous to leave on the books for another unknown government to implement in their own sweet way tomorrow.

Blair et al will of course maintain that not only can they walk on water, but that they take a stroll across the Thames every morning before work. They have too much face invested to back down now. They will carry on, gung ho, into oblivion.

We have two hopes. First that the next PM (whoever it may be) will have the spheres to admit they were wrong and turn it off. The other is that another party will get in next time and turn it off .... but off it must be turned.

When all is said, if Microsoft produce the best product people will buy it and thats a good thing. If people have to buy their product because no one else can produce an alternative, only because interoperability protocols are kept secret, then thats a bad thing.
