I only wish that all IT Pros didn't have to learn these the hard way - by experiencing the full impact of a failure caused by one of these mistakes.

Hopefully this list will help. Or maybe the best practices, the really important ones, *have* to be learnt the hard way to ensure that they become part of the routine.
