In the 1980s, many US Navy shipborn applications were hosted on UNIX systems. On day, the Navy deployed a destroyer running MS-Windows. Something went wrong somewhere and the ship became dead in the water for hours. Fortunately, this was not in a combat situation.

So when I hear that the US Navy is using Linux, my feeling is that the USN is returning to its roots.
