Occasionally, Apple do pre-announce something which is controversial like this and then when the reaction hits step back at the last minute. I think "someone" at Apple - probably legal - decided that this was a good idea under the current SEC situation and didn't actually see what kind of effect it would have on the general public (Internet Users).
