"No customer will be left out of pocket in the very unlikely event of fraudulent activity on their account following this unfortunate theft."

Shame that statements like this don't help the victims of identity theft deal with bad credit ratings and/or bailiffs.
The true cost of the theft being reputational (and not just to the financial institution).
