Story: Microsoft attacks IBM over ODF
ODF is the international ISO standard
Try using XP to open a .doc made with win98. It says it can't open the file and offers to check the web to find a progran that will.
The ODF format can, and will, open old documents so it only makes sense to use what works. Apparently M$ has a hard time understanding that.
