Yeah, but
you want to make sure not to purchase anything DRM'd then. That includes most payed for music downloads, various players and plenty of appliances. But not restricted to just music, video and multimedia.
Because this ODF could break the format lock-in, but the other battleground is the access lock-in.
And judging from consumer voting by means of their wallet, consumers love their own data to be accessed locked. That, or they're totally misguided and badly misinformed.
By the way, accessed locked means that you can access your data just fine, until you want to make use of your own data in ways the provider/vendor doesn't like. It could even be that this is not a real problem right now but a few updates along the way, when more and more of data is locked up and there's not really an option left.
Ah well, you know what they say. Consumers are like sheep. They won't fall for the same trap all the time. That's why you need new wrappings for the same old trick from time to time. Works perfectly so far.
