Laptop Theft - Individual & Small Biz Concern Too

It seems these days everyone’s head turns when big companies like Marks’ & Spencer and Nationwide loose a laptop or the TSA loses an external hard-drive http://www.tsa.gov/press/happenings/050407_statement.shtm

Laptop theft and loss happens to your average person and small business owner too encryption and remote laptop security (RLS) tools aside; people are often sloppy when they lug their machines around. Here are some additional laptop security tips:

1. Keep your laptop in an inconspicuous container. Flashy laptop cases might seem aesthetically appealing, but they end up attracting thieves' attention.

2. Don't leave laptops unattended in plain view. If you're forced to leave your laptop in the car, take an extra moment to lock it in the trunk.

3. At the airport, don't set your computer bag on the ground when checking in for your flight. The chaotic environment of crowded places presents opportunities for effortless theft.
