practical laptops?

I am delighted to see the thin client market awareness growing so rapidly & am hopeful this signifies a reduction in cultural inertia - i.e. we stop resisting such innovative change in approaches without technical or commercial reasoning.

Thin client is not new, and neither is this approach for thin client 'laptops' (e.g. look at the Tadpole 'SunRay in a laptop' proposition)

I'm not sure I'm bought into the concept given your desktop session itself should be portable via smart card use in any case.

What would be really useful may be a compromise - i.e. a solid state laptop, which is reconfigured whenever connected to the LAN/WLAN and updates files as required for true (non-network) portability. This could still require a smart card/token for use which is kept separately for example.
