Reinventing the wheel?

Perhaps I'm missing something, but NeoOffice was created to overcome Ooo's poor support for Mac. Whilst it's not perfect, it is perfectly usable in a production environment and the license terms are not onerous. The Guardian, for example, uses NeoOffice extensively.

Why is so much effort going into a version of Ooo with an Aqua GUI if the guys at NeoOffice seem to have it covered?
