I totally agree with your comment

I do not know the ins and outs of this, but as a general comment, Microsoft seems to want to dominate the market with what programmers have told me are generally badly written and largely untested, script products. Competition usually improves offerings to the customer, and Microsoft seems hell bent on crushing any competition.
