Story: BT Openreach unsure of fibre demand
No-brainer is the answer!
Let's put it this way: if NGA is provided at a reasonable (to the consumer) cost with high performance at all times and zero or very, very low contention ratios then we ALL want it in the UK. It is especially needed in the rural areas and the 'ribbon developments' that currently have poor to appalling DSL services. I am lucky to get 2.5 Mbps daytime, dropping to well under 350 kbps evenings. NGA fibre will provide far better service 24/7 - as long as the regulators (OFCOM) require there to be a maximum distance from cabinet (for an FTTC service) to subscriber of no more than 1 Km.
It can and should be done.
That will allow us to catch up with others. Japan already enjoys an average DSL performance exceeding 21 Mbps. Why should we not have equal or better?
