A "standard OS"????

Excuse me? Is someone *seriously* suggesting that the Windows monopoly is helping people avoid "high costs and lock-in caused by incompatible proprietary systems"? Because if so, then please tell me how much software and how many peripherals which run fine under XP also run correctly under Vista. To help you out, I would refer you to this news article:

If these proprietary systems are so compatible, why on Earth is there so much resistance to Microsoft's "latest and greatest"?

So if you upgrade to XP SP3 you can't uninstall Internet Explorer, I'm quite sure I'm having a Deja-vu feeling about MS preventing people from uninstalling Internet Explorer in other Windows products.
