Not a surprise

I think the only people who didn't predict that this buy-out never really made sense was Ebay - ( I reckon the guys at Skype were probably confused at the synergies too but the huge wads of cash helped to convince them). Online auctions and internet telephony - well they are both internet based apps I guess but apart from that - where is the cross-over? The idea that biuyers and sellers might want to IM or chat to each other through Skype just never really seemed to make sense to me.

When all is said, if Microsoft produce the best product people will buy it and thats a good thing. If people have to buy their product because no one else can produce an alternative, only because interoperability protocols are kept secret, then thats a bad thing.
