Sound observation.

Mobile operators have a challenge allowing VoIP over 3G. With Microsoft due to provide a VoIP client for Communicator Mobile for Windows Mobile 6 devices next year, any enterprise running Office Communications Server (OCS) 2007 will be able to provide "on net" voice using VoIP to Windows Mobile 6 smartphone users using Wi-Fi or 3G. This should slash enterprise mobile bills as GSM minutes are replaced by VoIP calls within a 3G tariff. It makes sense for voice to be carried using the same data bandwidth used for IM and presence as it is just another mode of communication. It's already possible to make VoIP calls using Office Communicator and OCS from Wi-Fi enabled laptops so why not extend the experience to the mobile smartphone? Exciting times....unless your business model is built on flogging GSM minutes!
