How does Apple benefit from this?

I don't see how shutting down a fan site is going to benefit Apple in any way. The site catered to Apple enthusiasts, its a rumour site and most of what they published was positive speculation on what Apple were doing.
As i see it, Apple will miss out on the free publicity.
