Story: Online TV blamed for choking broadband networks
No Tiscali, its your responsibility
This is a bit like the bus driver asking McDonald's to contribute towards fuel costs simply because the food they sell makes the passengers fat!
The argument that somehow content providers should pay networks is a risk to the internet as we know it; services like BBC iPlayer, Youtube couldn't afford to pay for the sort of bandwidth they require. instead, such a move would lead to either charging the viewer or in the case of BBC iPlayer, cut-backs or closure of the service.
Tiscali charges people between £20 - £40 a month, now they want to take money from both sides.
I have 3 simple solutions for Tiscali;
1. Charge people based on the bandwidth they use (and let your competitors kick the crap out of you!).
2. Work out a way to get more bandwith from BT.
3. Invest in your own infrastructure, like Virgin Media.
Tiscali if you can't handle the fire, get outta the kitchen, BT, Virgin, et al will have no problem accomodating your customers.
