We need to redefine I.T. skills

There are as many reports claiming an existance of a shortage in skills as there are those claiming that I.T. graduates can’t find jobs.

The problem is an industry that’s moving too fast for its own good; students graduate from university only to discover that they don’t have the skills/experience the employer is looking for.
For example; this report states that worker with “.Net Oracle, SAP, Vmware will be in high demand”. could you find a university in the land that trains people Vmware or SAP?

I don’t think there’s a shortage in I.T. skills, its more accurate to say there’s a shortage in ‘I.T. Experience’, the fact that you’ve never used SAP or Vmware doesn’t necessarilly make you unskilled, you just as well might be a .Net expert, It usually doesn't take a lot of training to transfer those skills over.

Graduates are well horned, all that’s needed is a little tweaking and that’s an investment the employer has to make!
