A little too late!

Unfortunately for Mr Olstein, it wouldn’t be very wise to walk away now; $34 billion down as a result of this bid, walking away now would be a double loss. Most of all, what would it say about Microsoft?

Perhaps as an important investor (if indeed he is), Robert Olstein should be upset that Microsoft didn’t seek his wisdom first.
Or maybe the strategy could have been slightly different. Ideally, they should have teased them with a much lower offer e.g. $30billion, this would have lowered Yahoo’s expectations, they were in decline anyway. After being declined, Microsoft would've simply increase it to the current offer of $44billion, the Yahoo board would've jumped!

Who’s to say this isn’t their strategy anyway? maybe their true valuation is upwards of $50billion!!
