Desktops apps to run with iphone

Making the iphone so it can used with exchange is all well and good for the pc user base who can use Outlook which come bundled with exchange, but what about the mac users. They will have to either use Apple mail which is crap conneting to exchange or forkout £250 for the standard version of office 2008. Apple will need to upgrade there mail app to support more than the mail part of exchange.
