Windows XP & MS's techno driven 'progress'

MS has consistently forced over-specced/elaborate OS & other applications on to a docile, mainly accepting, marketplace using voguish excuses like technology driven progress, new generation technology - as if these were somehow inevitable forces driven by some latent demand (but mainly, of course, by MS's business model of forced obsolescence.)
There is a term for supplying people with a product or features of a product, they did not ask for & to oblige them pay for it (or make it extremely difficult for them not to pay for it.)

It's called Inertia Selling - and it's illegal (or was, last time I looked.)
