Story: Row erupts over schools open-source project
Education credentials
I don't really understand why the SF-UK/TLM bid could be considered a technologists' bid rather than an educationists' bid. We have extensive experience of software needs in schools. One of the people manages production of SAM Learning's content, another is a former Registered Inspector and leader of the Special Interest Group on Open Source with the National Associaltion of Advisers in Computer Education. TLM is an OFQUAL accredited Awarding Body specialising in qualifications in open systems for schools. The bid was backed by the National Center for Open Source in Education in the USA. So please let us hit on the head any notion that the SF/UK group are not educationally savvy. Of course we did have 2 PhD technologists for technical things like web development but why should that be a problem? We assumed balance was what was needed so we got support from a wide range of groups from the outset.
I also think that there is no evidence that AlphaPlus have done anything wrong. There is evidence that BECTA's procedures are flawed. 130 MPs signed an early day motion to this effect last year and it seems they still haven't sorted it out yet.
