Firefox 3 Disables Many Firefox Add-Ons

Finally, in the afternoon of 18th July, my inbox had an e-mail from Firefox dated 17th and inviting me to download it.
I have done so, so far on three machines. It looks sleek and I like the way that it can clear offline PC work too. However, it doesn't work with many of the excellent Add ons that we previously relied on, such as advert blocking. I downloaded it onto one of my machines which is still perfect in use, but a Windows 98 machine and the download was rejected. I also notice that the brand new AVG software which had a toolbar compatible with the previous version is now disabled. This software was only released this month and it offers alot of useful functions. I just wonder how can a new product be inclusive with Firefox on 17th July and totally disabled by the 'upgrade' the next day.
I think it looks good and I have always been a Firefox user and fan, but I think that Firefox 3 loads pages more slowly - is that my imagination?
I have a few reservations but I look forward to reading reviews of it, other than your own which I notice points out the lack of compatibility with Windows 95, 98 and ME also.
