Story: PGP boss sets out to save Bletchley Park
It's the same problem most museams face
Bletchley Park does charge an admission fee, the problem isn't that, or even government support. It faces the same problems countless other museams face across the country. When a news story occurs talking about its problems, people rant and rave about how terrible it is that that it doesn't get the support it should. Yet if you think about Bletchley Park, its in a good location, close to London. It is of great historical note and importance and its natural support comes from an industry with plenty of cash.
The problem is most people will happy say it needs more support but aren't prepared to actually provide it themselves. Bletchley Park needs volunters, so if you live nearby you could actually volunteer, but most who could and do complain, don't. Secondly there is no reason not to become a freind of Bletchley Park, which only costs 20 pounds (which really is far too low for a schemes like it). Again most don't because that actaully costs them something. I would ask this, how many of the zdnet staff are actually a Friend of Bletchley Park? How many of those who ran and rave about Bletchley Park haven't donated?
There is no reason for Bletchley Park to be short of funds, other then one of the problems most museams face. People believe history should be preserved, just using some else's time and money.
