50p not enough to boost BT profits and squeeze out much more cost effective competition by somehow avoiding State Aid issues as a Private company by being treated as a public one..

To feed fibre to everybody is far to expensive, there are far more cost effective methods for small to medium density population areas.

To provide the bandwidth fibre will offer will require a ground up mass investment in the internet's infrastructure.. who is going to pay for this?, else it will all fall over..
