Intel hangs mesh hopes on 802.11s

News Intel has unveiled its first proposals for 802.11s, a new mesh wireless networking standard. Mesh networks are self-configuring systems where each node can relay messages on behalf of others, thus increasing the range and available bandwidth.

Intel hangs mesh hopes on 802.11s

Talkback Mesh networks are deployed across the planet already. In fact, last week at the UK DTI ABC Summit http://www.abcampaign.org.uk, we heard Richard Lander of LocustWorld report that there are over 11,000 MeshBoxes deployed world wide.

Mesh Topology Construction for Interconnected Wireless LANs

White Papers The 802.11s working group has been formed recently to recommend an Extended Service Set (ESS) that enables wider area communications among distributed clients, each of which has access to an IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN (WLAN).

An Efficient Multi-Hop ARP Scheme for Wireless LAN Based Mesh Networks

White Papers One of the important functions of wireless mesh networks is a multi-hop packet forwarding among fixed wireless routers. The current proposal for the IEEE 802.11s specification (i.e.the standardization effort for WLAN-based mesh networks) focuses on...

On the Scalability of Hierarchical Hybrid Wireless Networks

White Papers This paper presents an analysis of the scaling properties of a three-tier hierarchical hybrid wireless network. The network under consideration, which arises in mesh networking scenarios such as 802.11s, aims to achieve better capacity than ad hoc...

A "Smart" MAC-Routing Protocol for WLAN Mesh Networks

White Papers A WLAN mesh network is a IEEE 802.11 WLAN infrastructured network in which the communication within the Access Points in the same Extended Service Set (ESS) is hop-by-hop in a router-like fashion. The IEEE 802.11s working group has centered the...

QoS in Wireless Mesh Networks: Challenges, Pitfalls, and Roadmap to Its Realization

White Papers Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) have the potential to lead to a disruptive change in the landscape of wireless communications. The vision to support self-engineered wireless network infrastructures that allow for an organic growth of the network is...

OLPC XO review

Reviews The OLPC XO looks unlike any other notebook externally; inside, it's a low-spec unit based around AMD's 433MHz Geode LX700, designed for extremely low power consumption. For more hardware images, see our comparative photo gallery.

Photos: OLPC, Classmate and Eee review

Reviews Small and inexpensive notebooks designed primarily for schoolchildren — particularly in developing countries — have been a hot topic ever since Nicholas Negroponte's One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) project began in 2005.
