What Do We Expect from Netbooks?
Blog Now, this has to be qualified with the fact that I have never tried any other netbook, and in particular I have never tried one with an Intel Atom CPU (the Mini-Note has a VIA C-7M CPU), but that is one of the reasons I am posting this for...

CPU Frequency Scaling
Blog Sure enough, it did the trick - as soon as I rebooted, the CPU monitor showed the frequency dropping from 1.6GHz to 800 MHz when the system was idle, the cooling fan didn't run nearly as much (mostly not at all), and the bottom of the Mini-Note...

MSI Wind: a first look review
Reviews It also humbles HP's 2133 Mini-Note, which has just two USB ports. This isn't particularly high (especially considering the 8.9in.screen on the HP 2133 Mini-Note runs at 1,280 by 768 pixels), but that's no bad thing.

HP "Entertainment PC" Revisited
Blog Mini-Note, high resolution (1280x768), Vista preloaded The 2133 has a VIA C7-M CPU and VIA Chrome 9 graphic controller; the 2140 was a very standard Intel Atom based system, and the new 1010ez has an AMD Athlon Neo CPU and ATI Radeon graphic...

ecoquiet RM ONE 50: a first look review
Reviews The ecoquiet RM ONE 50 is built around Intel's Mini-ITX D945GCLF motherboard: note that the big heatsink and fan are on the 945CG chipset rather than the CPU. Although the 45nm single-core/dual-thread Atom chip has been widely talked up as a CPU...

Moblin on the Nettop - First Steps
Blog I've wanted to look at moblin for quite some time, but had held back because my HP Mini-Note netbooks have VIA cpu and graphic chips, and I've heard that they can be difficult with moblin (and I saw for myself that they are difficult with the...

Which Netbook ? Help !
Blog Comment Utz, have you looked at the HP 2133 Mini Note? It has a VIA CPU, rather than the typical Intel Atom for these things, if that matters to you. I know that it has a standard external VGA connector, and I just got an advert with a huge price cut on it...

Dell Inspiron Mini 9 review
Reviews Component-wise, the Mini 9 is similar to other recent Netbooks, such as the Eee PC 901 and the Acer Aspire One (which all use Intel's Atom CPU). As an interesting note, the Mini 9 apparently includes an inactive internal mobile broadband module.

HP Mini 2140 review
Reviews It retains the aluminium construction and big keyboard, but updates the components to an Intel Atom CPU, adding an accelerometer for the hard drive and a full ExpressCard/54 slot — a netbook first (Lenovo's S10 has a smaller Express Card/34 slot).

HP Mini 2140 - Strongly Recommended!
Blog Once I got past the problem with the BIOS setup claiming that it had a Dual Core CPU, loading UNR 9.04 was easy. As far as I can tell, the packaging of the HP 2140 is identical to that of my HP 2133 Mini-Note.

Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) Beta
Blog CPU Frequency Scaling works on the VIA C7-M CPU (HP 2133 Mini-Note), without having to edit the kernel boot line. HP 2133 Mini, VIA C7-M I've been installing the Karmic Beta release on everything I have around here, and the news is generally good.

Via Nano to take on Intel's Atom
News Taiwanese chip manufacturer Via Technologies has released a new energy-efficient CPU, the Via Nano, which will go head-to-head with Intel's latest mobile processor, Atom. At 21mm by 21mm, the Nano is based on Fujitsu's 65nm (nanometre) architecture...

Mandriva One 2010 RC2
Blog On the HP 2133 Mini-Note (VIA C7-M CPU), it still did not get CPU frequency scaling activated. The other two were both AMD CPU / ATI graphic systems. The first of those was my Fujitsu Lifebook S6510, which is a pretty standard Intel Core2 Duo CPU...

Fedora 11
Blog Now, to be fair, this is only an Atom-based system, but as it is a pretty well equipped dual CPU Atom system, I suppose this means that I wouldn't be rushing right out to put Fedora 11 on a netbook. I wasn't able to install it at all on my HP 2133...

Nokia N800 Internet Tablet review
Reviews The Nokia 770 was criticised for its sluggish performance, so it's heartening to note that the N800 uses a faster processor (although CPU details are not forthcoming on Nokia's web site) and more memory — 128MB of RAM (compared to 64MB on the 770...

Fair is Fair - Ubuntu Netbook Remix
Blog I've mentioned several times that I have tried it, very briefly, on the HP Mini-Note, and the VIA CPU and Graphic adapter caused it to be unusably slow. Ok, so I realized that if I'm going to be fair about this, in addition to trying Moblin on the...

Fedora 12 Alpha and The Moblin User Experience
Blog HP 2133 Mini-Note (VIA CPU and Graphics): Unable to boot the LiveCD, it doesn't seem to like the Chrome 9 display adapter. MMS (Multi-Boot Mini-Server, Dual Atom nettop): Installed smoothly, works extremely well, and is overall very nice.

Dell Inspiron Mini 12 muscles in on notebook turf
News Like the Inspiron Mini 9, the Mini 12 is powered by Intel's Atom, a CPU choice that helps justify Dell's designation of the machine as a netbook. This use of a platter drive is a characteristic that the Mini 12 shares with HP's 2133 Mini-Note PC.
