Talkback This predates IPv6! The scheme in question was designed in the 1980s for the OSI Network Layer, and was in DECnet Phase V. Before that, DECnet Phase IV created Ethernet addresses out of network addresses -- the scheme in reverse.

Talkback The given link to "www.freepatentsonline.com" only says "an IP address". There is no distinction mentioned between an IPv4 address and an IPv6 address. Therefore I believe the concern is justified.

Talkback Whats wrong with this. Read the actual patent claim (again) and come back with why this shouldn“t be allowed. It is just one implementation of assigning/making an IP-adress and testing it. There is no relevance to standard etc.
