VMware to launch own Linux distro?

Blog Comment Vmware already does a Linux distro: it's called ESX. So the recruitment might be for that - but if it's a full distro it makes sense *for VMware* and virtually no sense for customers. Buy support from a company that just sliced features and...

VMware to launch own Linux distro?

Blog VMware is creating a new Linux distro, according to the recruiting spam they are sending on Linked In.and a little later: Leaky VMware-istas confirm that VMware is creating a Linux distro. This is a pure rumour, sourced from random tweets.

VMware to launch own Linux distro?

Blog Comment ESX is not Linux.when will people get that, just because the service console is Redhat based does not a linux distro make. The VMkernel is fully propriatory designed and written from the ground up.

One of best OS's arround, definately one of distro's out there.

One of best OS's arround, definately one of distro's out there. image Member Review Not something I can say about other distro's. Not as clean and fancy as Suse or OS X, but definately solid and reliable and works with every hardware combo I have tried. I don't have a dvd burner, so I relied on burning downloads to cd's.cd's later...

Munich picks its Linux distro

Talkback have to say debian is a great distro (my favourite). Install is not for newbies, but if your IT dept is setting up your PC, this isn't an issue for you.

VMware to launch own Linux distro?

Blog Comment ESX isnt as really a linux Distro, as ESXi doesnt have a linux OS involved at all. The Service console in ESX is a modified version of RHEL that sits on top of the kernel as its own VM as such. In vSphere 4 you can even access its own .vmdk file.

Intel's Moblin 2 Atom Linux distro goes alpha

Blog Comment No worries - hijack away! It;s a good discussion. No, I don't yet know the Moblin 2 roadmap, but I'll see what I can find out.

Munich picks its Linux distro

Talkback Excellent! We switched from Redhat to Debian and we are very satisfied with it.

Linux distro tackles spam

Talkback Well, when a UK editor accompanies an article on Astaro with a comment from a UK competitor you know who pays the bill :)

Munich picks its Linux distro

Talkback Cool, good on them. We use Debian for approx 700 desktops in my company and it works really well for an enteprise, apt-get & cron provides a brilliant way to push out updates and new packages.

Linux distro tackles spam

Talkback I second the first comment. This story sounds like sour grapes from a competitor.

Munich picks its Linux distro

Talkback I think Munich headed in the right direction. There is a *world* of user support, it is stable, package management is superb. The install is not graphical wizz bang point and click, but is not all that tough.

Intel's Moblin 2 Atom Linux distro goes alpha

Blog Comment I do like my Lenovo S10e but I'm disappointed to see that the best price is now lower still than when I purchased it only about 10 days ago. I haven't been able to get the Broadcom Wireless working in Ubuntu yet, but that may be partly down to my...

Intel's Moblin 2 Atom Linux distro goes alpha

Blog Comment David - Sorry, we didn't intend to hijack the comments on your article for what turned into a not-very-directly-related discussion. To get back to the original topic, have you seen or heard any kind of schedule for when Moblin will work its way...

Intel's Moblin 2 Atom Linux distro goes alpha

Blog Comment Moley - I'm not surprised, in fact I would have been surprised if it had been otherwise. But I am glad to hear that you are downloading it, and I am anxious to hear from you how it works. Not least because I just saw an offer for a Lenovo S10e...

VMware to launch own Linux distro?

Blog Comment If there is truth in this Rupert, wouldn't it have made more sense to keep that announcement for a VMworld event? and we only just had one back in Sept in Moscone right? AdrianB

VMware to launch own Linux distro?

Blog Comment It's insanely difficult to sync announcements with events. Intel are perhaps the strangest in this regard - it frequently says big things two weeks before or two weeks after IDF, where they've got hundreds of journalists just gagging for stories.

Intel's Moblin 2 Atom Linux distro goes alpha

Blog Comment Sorry Jamie but Moblin only works on Intel graphics however it does apparently recognise Broadcom wireless network adaptors. I'm downloading a live version just now to try out.
