Xubuntu on the Acer Aspire One
Blog I was a bit bored with the sluggish performance of Ubuntu Netbook Remix on my small but perfectly formed Aspire One, so following on from oiio's personal experience, I've installed Xubuntu. It was a bit tricky installing Xubuntu in the first...

Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope) Final Release
Blog I have not installed the Ubuntu Netbook Remix (UNR), because it has serious performance problems with the openchrome driver in my HP Mini-Note netbooks. The downloads became available yesterday afternoon, European time, and I have now installed it...

HP Mini 2140 - I Get To Try One!
Blog Because the 2140 came with a relatively old SuSE Linux Enterprise Desktop (SLED) 10 installed, I decided to just skip that and go straight for the throat - install Ubuntu Netbook Remix, and be done with it and ready to work in 30 minutes or less.

Ubuntu 9.10 (karmic Koala) on Netbooks - Part 1 (Overview)
Blog Comment The Intel driver is quite good in this area, so you can turn on Advanced Video Effects, or run the Ubuntu Netbook Remix, and it all works very nicely. That means you can't enable Advanced Video Effects (not a big deal), and if you try to run the...

Using Xfce for a Netbook Desktop
Blog As I have said before, I think the Ubuntu Netbook Remix (which is based on the Gnome desktop) is good for casual users, but I think it is a bit tedious for experienced users, and I find the Moblin desktop to be mostly inscrutable.

Ubuntu 9.10 (karmic Koala) on Netbooks - Part 3 (Xubuntu Xfce)

Notes On the HP 2133 Mini-Note
Blog The most obvious place where this is visible is that the 2133 just can't run the Ubuntu Netbook Remix well at all, the 3D effects on the UNR desktop are painfully slow. The easy/silly answer is, of course, get the optional double battery pack if...
