IPv6 hype suggests real problems

Blog Comment Thanks Defyant - those are good points. I still think there is some confusion in the way it's being promoted at the moment. I don't understand how an IPv6 version of EU websites designed for "end users" will help.

IPv6 hype suggests real problems

Blog Comment True, there is a real problem here. And IPv6 is the best answer we have. But how does making a bureaucratic web site available on IPv6 in two years' time help? Whatever happens with IPv6 will have to be backward compatible anyway.

IPv6: don't be so US-centric

Talkback It's a bit US-centric to include IPv6. The US has bagged most of the IPv4 addresses, so the real problem of a lack of IP addresses has already hit the developing world and AsiaPac. IPv6 is the answer to a real problem that's hurting now.

IPv6 and IPv4 - big trouble coming, and soon

Blog Comment Great article - the head in the sand approach will not work for much longer - either make a real effort at getting IPV6 on it's feet or find a better solution before IPV4 space are traded like shares and we have to sell a kidney to get piece.

IPv6 hype suggests real problems

Blog IPv6 is getting the kind of support that, in my experience, usually goes with a failed standard. ICANN is trying to scare us into adopting it, saying that "the people using new network applications are using IPv6".

IPv6 and IPv4 - big trouble coming, and soon

Blog You'll know that most of the Internet runs on IP version 4, the first cut of the Internet Protocol to see widespread use. It was standardised in 1981; for the past twenty five years or so, it's underpinned the beyond-massive expansion of the Internet.

IPv6 hype suggests real problems

Blog Comment IPv6 isn't a "hype" issue at all. This is the next generation IP, plain and simple. Japan's government mandated way back in 97 that they research and plan to build and deploy v6 networks, and they have.
