Quad-Boot Fun, and A Correction
Blog I now have my Fujitsu Lifebook S6510 set up to quad-boot XP/Ubuntu/openSuSE/Mandriva! In an earlier post I said that the openSuSE installation did not recognize a previously installed Ubuntu partition and set it up to dual-boot.

A Few Notes about the GRUB Bootloader
Blog More entertainingly, it is also used for the openSUSE "winter penguin" boot graphic. One interesting thing in particular that you can do on openSUSE is edit the gfxboot.cfg file to change how often the "winter penguin" boot screen is displayed.

Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) Alpha 5 - A Few Quick Comments
Blog Comment So I can use its GRUB as the main bootloader, and then boot Karmic from it, even though I can't access the Karmic parition once openSuSE is running. The situation is made a bit more complex by the fact that whether or not GRUB understands ext4 is...

Another Look at openSolaris
Blog I assumed that because of openSolaris not understanding ext4 or Extended Partitions, I wouldn't be able to multi-boot under control of the openSolaris GRUB, so all I really wanted to do was figure out the boot command so that I could add that to...

Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope) Final Release
Blog Comment The only exception that I have found to this is that the GRUB in openSuSE 11.1 does understand ext4. That's a bit odd, since the openSuSE 11.1 kernel doesn't understand ext4. However, almost all of the "older" versions of GRUB don't understand ext4...

DIY Dual Atom Nettop System
Blog Then I decided to try the openSuSE 11.2 Milestone 2 distribution. So, I gave up on that one and went back to openSuSE 11.1. Boot the installed system, do my normal configuration and package installations, and it looks very, very good.

Mandriva Linux - Wonderful and Maddening

openSUSE Installation, DVD vs. LiveCD
Blog You can not simply boot and run openSUSE from the DVD in the way that you can from the LiveCD, so if your intent is to just try openSUSE and see if you like it, without actually installing it, you must use one of the LiveCD distributions.

openSuSE 11.1 Released

openSuSE stumbles, Ubuntu shines
Blog I tried loading openSuSE 11.0 on my Fujitsu-Siemens Lifebook S2110 over the weekend. But openSuSE was a different story, it didn't seem to want to actually change the resolution, no matter what I did.
