The hunt for ET via the Net begins...

News But the acid test will come when the number of users rises to tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands. We're not asking people to call the press when they see a spike on the screen," Werthimer said.

Moving on - SightSpeed

Blog Now comes the first "acid tests" - a few calls between some of the systems I have around, including some rather underpowered ones that used to struggle with Skype calls, and tests with various webcams - none of which are the "SightSpeed approved...

Ubuntu Netbook Remix "Acid Test" - Wrap-Up

Blog Time to wrap up one more open item - my informal "Acid Test" of UNR. It's an older netbook (one of the originals), it has an exceptionally small screen (7 inches), a touchpad with no buttons (so you have to "tap" to simulate buttons), and only 4GB...

Ubuntu Netbook Remix - An Acid Test

Blog At the end of last week I got the opportunity to start an "Acid Test" of the latest Ubuntu Netbook Remix. The "Acid Test" part came about because I did all of this on Thursday evening, and I was leaving for the weekend on Friday morning.

My worst nightmare

Blog I blogged about remote backup services a few months ago and now came the acid test. Then, one morning I got the "Blue screen of death". Being out on the road all the time has it's risks and my worst nightmare came true a couple of weeks ago.

iRex iLiad review

Reviews We were able to read for long stretches without any eye discomfort at all, which is the acid test for the iLiad in terms of everyday usability. Microcapsules are ‘printed’ onto a plastic film that becomes the screen.

Ubuntu Netbook Remix "Acid Test" - First Results

Blog The screen is also very small, which occasionally causes a problem when programs open a window that is not scaled properly and ends up being larger than the screen - with critical options or buttons missing off the bottom.

Ubuntu Netbook Remix - An Acid Test

Blog Comment The screen savers. Just to add.now that I've dug a little deeper with mint, I have the windows exploding shut, falling like leaves, wobbling like jelly, Morphing into light then transparancey and the list goes on.

Ubuntu Netbook Remix - An Acid Test

Blog Comment It is very useful to me, knowing that Mint works well and looks good on a small screen. Hi Roger, Thanks for posting this information. I'm intrigued by your experience with ReadyBoost showing visible improvement under Win7.

Ubuntu Netbook Remix - An Acid Test

Blog Comment Mint sits very nicely on the first generation Acer One's screen. It fits on the small screen in every way. @J.A. Watson. I took the plunge and installed Linux Mint on my acer one and apart from having to switch to the proprietary "Mad Wi-Fi" driver...

Ubuntu Netbook Remix "Acid Test" - First Results

Blog Comment The layout seems to be an acceptable alternative from a native KDE screen, everything self explanatory. Good article Jamie. I finally got around to trying UNR on my HP MINI. Got it installed to my 16gig stick and have ran it as live only, so far.

Ubuntu Netbook Remix - An Acid Test

Blog Comment The screen is so small that I'm afraid the standard Mint desktop and especially the menus would be difficult to use. Hi Roger, thanks for the comment. Why not Mint? Several reasons: I'm planning to write tomorrow about some of the observations I...

Ubuntu Netbook Remix "Acid Test" - Wrap-Up

Blog Comment Do those hieroglyphics across the top of the screen make any sense to you? Hmmm. That's odd, Ator. Any indication of why the wireless network didn't come up? Was it not handling the wireless interface properly (driver problem or missing), or was...

Ubuntu Netbook Remix "Acid Test" - Wrap-Up

Blog Comment My netbook is an HP mini, 8.9" screen, web cam, microphone, 16 gig SSD, 1 gig memory, Atom processor. I had installed UNR on a 16 gig thumb drive, and tried it out on the hospital's wireless network, while visiting my wife.
