2010: The year of the techie
Talkback What planet does this man live on, the car I drive will never make me a better techie. "helped in part by more intelligent cars" Most REAL techies I know don't drive smart cars, they like old vintage cars.

2010: The year of the techie
Talkback Even if we were to start churning out techies, it doesn't always mean you get a good techie in the end. a techie is created. The physical side of the techie industry is closer to a skilled trade without the same attention to skills development that...

2010: The year of the techie
News Being labelled a techie used to be an impediment to advancement, but by 2010 technical skills will be more highly prized than ever, according to a study by management consultants Deloitte. According to the report, "Eye to the Future — How...

Techie comedy draws flak and some fans
Talkback I watched it with my (non-techie) wife and both of us were laughing - albeit at different things and we've now added it to our sky planner! Absolutely loved it! All of our IT department watched it, either online or on the TV - and there were plenty...

Talkback 'I think it also gets harder to improve the GPL for Linux when Linux has got much "bigger". The GPL isn't just for Linux.

2010: The year of the techie
Talkback This article goes completely against common sense. Most people have difficulty walking and chewing gum at the same time. Having someone drive at breakneck speeds and try to dictate an e-mail will only end up in disaster.

Techie comedy draws flak and some fans
Talkback I laughed out loud many times. I agree it's not too cerebral, but I suspect this is what offends some people. To me it's a bit like Viz for TV and it works a treat. I've been working in technology for 18 years, specifically IT for 10 of those and...

Techie comedy draws flak and some fans
Talkback I think it has potential to grow into a good comedy programme, I particulary liked the way they spotted the new manager was not IT savy - she did not react to an original ZX81

Techie comedy draws flak and some fans
Talkback Enjoyable in a delightfully surreal way and also understandable by non-IT types. OK, it had "Have you tried switching the computer off, then on again" as a running gag; what's wrong with that? All too often we been told in real life to uninstall...

Talkback I cannot see why Linus would like to tie his hands with a draft- And suppose the DRM part become part of the law (in the USA) or nastily put into the hardware. Also could Linus having accepted GPL 3 make any amendments to it in the future.

Talkback not even the great Chris Morris could save this terrible piece of "comedy", the canned laughter is a sign of their desperation to flag that something "funny" has just happened

Techie comedy draws flak and some fans
Talkback I loved it, it had some real laugh out loud moments. And it's about time there was some decent and slightly surreal situation comedy coming from the UK. In fact, the only thing I found patently unfunny were the (bad) jokes about "Made in Britain...

Techie comedy draws flak and some fans
Talkback Oddly the show isn't actually based on an IT departments activities. You could lift the so-called comic moments and drop them into any number of sitcom environments. Like much of TV, it isn't funny and it isn't clever.

Techie comedy draws flak and some fans
Talkback If that's the best IT related TV programme they can come up with they need their heads testing. I worked in an IT department that was ten times funnier every single day, but also had glamour, sex, drugs, scandal and lots more besides.
