Ubuntu On Fujitsu Lifebook S6510

Blog Having had so much success with Ubuntu on the older "test" laptop (Fujitsu-Siemens Lifebook S2110), and not expecting to want to try Vista on the newer Fujitsu Lifebook S6510 again anytime soon, I decided to try installing Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron...

More Pleasant Surprises With Ubuntu

Blog If it continues to go this way, what I will probably do is try loading Ubuntu on the newer Lifebook S6510, and see how it works there. As I continue to test and work with Ubuntu, I have come across a few more very pleasant surprises:

Triple Boot Ubuntu/Vista/XP - No Go So Far

Blog After several days of struggle, I am still unable to get a triple-boot disk set up on my Fujitsu Lifebook S6510. One of the more amusing permutations was when I first installed Vista, then copied XP into the next partition, and finally installed...

OpenSUSE 11.0 First Impressions

Blog The installation only took about 15 minutes on the newer Lifebook S6510 (Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz) laptop. As I told my brother (who is still using XP, and has sworn not to touch Vista until Hell freezes over), in many cases the average user who is...

Vista SP1 Installed, Working OK So Far

Blog The installation of Vista SP1 completed normally on my Lifebook S6510, and it seems to be running normally for the time being. I have also installed Ubuntu 8.04.1 (Hardy Heron), and Mandriva Spring 2008, so I have a three-way boot selection now.

Dual-Boot Ubuntu And Windows XP Professional

Blog As always, I have started this on the older "test" laptop, a Fujitsu-Siemens Lifebook S2110, which has an AMD Turion 64 CPU. I kept my "primary" Windows XP disk intact, by using a second disk drive which I had previously used to test Vista and...

Maybe Vista Really Is Getting Better

Blog This laptop (Fujitsu Lifebook S6510) has the optional 1 GB of "TurboMemory", and I can guarantee you that the previous times I ran Vista I could not see anything unusual about the suspend/resume speed.

PCLinuxOS 2008 Gnome On New Laptop.

Blog Comment Thanks for the information, too, I'll go have a look at PClinuxOS, maybe see how it goes on my Lifebook. Anyway, I agree with you, between Ubuntu and XP Professional, it is extremely unlikely that I will ever go back to Vista for anything more than...

Open Office To The Rescue

Blog I gave them the Lifebook S2110, running Ubuntu and OpenOffice.org, and they worked perfectly happily on it all evening. I was just working with Vista booted on my laptop (running one of the few remaining programs I have that requires Vista), when I...
