2008-01-06. Vista Is A Downgrade. Part 4.

Talkback There's one good thing with Vista though: When I installed my VPN for work I used something akin to a Wizzard that was able to connect me almost immediatly and effortlessly whereas in XP I had to go into advanced settings of the TCP/IP entry of...

Five Things You'll Love (and Hate) About Windows Vista review

Reviews But based on what I've seen after living with Windows Vista beta 2 for a while, here are five things I think you'll like about the new operating system -- some of which might persuade certain fence-sitters to upgrade -- and five things that may...

2008-01-06 Vista Is An Upgrade - Part 2

Talkback Vista does NOT improve on XP ! There is a whopping load of programs I used to run on a regular basis under XP that no longer work on Vista. Also, everytime I end up in a folder Vista displays a bunch of Columns that I DON'T NEED!

How Microsoft Can Make Windows 7 A Success

News One of the worst aspects of Windows Vista is that it is almost always slower than its predecessor, XP, when running on the same hardware. The Windows development team has to find a way to streamline Windows 7 so that it's faster and more stable...

Microsoft 'must Support OpenDocument'

Talkback With my Windows XP and the upcoming Vista plus some more hundred bucks, I am now with the majority of happy users under Microsoft's wing. I've seen some of my misguided collegues wrestle their way to interpreting Power Point slides in that poor...

2008-01-06 Vista Is A Downgrade.

Talkback Don't *need* another newer version of Windows, such as Vista. But with Vista? The title bar of every window now looks 1.5 times the height that it was under XP and I can't change it. XP works perfectly totally fine.

Do We Need A Campaign To Save XP?

Blog Moving people on, is obviously in Microsoft's interest, as more new PCs, mean more profits (though we've seen elsewhere that in many circumstances, the familiar and trusted XP commands a higher price than most versions of Vista).

Apple Mac OS X On X86: A First Test

Talkback New Intel Apple macs (iBook, Powerbooks, iMacs, Mac minis etc.need* to support dual boot to Windows XP/Vista. Yeah, that would explain why Windows Vista Beta 1 picked up my Soundblaster 16 on the ISA slot (I have a ISA bridge because it's a new...

2007-01-06. Vista Is A Downgrade. Part 3.

Talkback But the sound in Vista is ATROCIOUS? Then I'm told by a Vista popup that PowerDVD has compatibility issues and has an update and do I want to install it. You still get popups that say "this program is incompatible with Vista please get the update...

On Safari With Steve Jobs At WWDC

Blog Most of the keynote was spent unveiling new features coming with Leopard in the autumn - good features, fun features, even (if you compare them with Vista) great features, but you had to be prepared to stifle the still small voice going "oh, more...

Marketing Mush

Blog I was a little dismayed to see that they think the best way to use Windows (any version back to and including XP) is to have the system come up from "sleep" mode. Currently DebbieToo (a Celeron) and SugarBear (a P3) both boot up faster than Windows...

XP SP3 Is Sick Puppy 3, Stupid Patchwork 3, Stupendous Pain-in-the-A__ 3

Blog Worker droid status in the Zombie armies of the Internet is the ultimate fate of all of the 500 to 600 desktop Windows XP computers we use in the oilfield rental fleet. We weren't going to use Vista for damn sure.

Software Jihad

Blog Considering how well Vista is doing, Windows 7 might be the last opportunity Microsoft has to make a profit off an operating system. His claim is that typical Chinese people can't afford the local retail prices for legitimate Windows XP Pro.

I Will Blog, Despite Vista's Best Efforts

Blog I had several thoughts that I imagined might be interesting to share: about how, despite all the advances that have generated all the product upgrades from the 'Wintel' duopoly, I have this week discovered that an eight-year old Toshiba laptop...

Developer Tool Sheds Light On Vista Bugs

Talkback The tool doesn't shed light on Vista bugs, it sheds light on poorly designed code that will not work under Vista when used in a proper, secure environment. I give Microsoft credit for getting this tool out early enough so that people can deal with...
