Windows XP SP3 Installed

Blog Moreover, they have not only held back XP SP3, they have also stopped Vista SP1 from Automatic Download (again) for the same reason. Overall I am very happy with the S6510 running XP since my latest retreat from Vista last week.

OS Scratch Load Times

Blog Once the "Run Once" utility is done, I have to remove a couple of Fujitsu devices and drivers which block Vista SP1 from installing, then I can turn Windows Update loose on it. This week I have been reloading Vista, and even though I have slogged...

Status Update, Vista To XP Retreat (Advance?)

Blog It has been two weeks since I switched from Windows Vista back to Windows XP Professional on my Fujitsu Lifebook S6510, and two months since I made the same switch on my Fujitsu-Siemens Lifebook S2110.

Status Update, Vista To XP Retreat (Advance?)

Blog Comment It may be true that cutting off XP support would provide some impetus for businesses to upgrade, but then Microsoft has certainly not done Vista any favors by making Windows XP SP3 - it's imminent release is undoubtedly making a lot of people feel...

XP SP3 Is Sick Puppy 3, Stupid Patchwork 3, Stupendous Pain-in-the-A__ 3

Blog Worker droid status in the Zombie armies of the Internet is the ultimate fate of all of the 500 to 600 desktop Windows XP computers we use in the oilfield rental fleet. It should not require all of the effort I and others in the company have had to...

Linksys WRT350N Wireless-N Gigabit Router With Storage Link

Blog It is worth noting that while Windows Vista has WPA2 security included, it has not yet been made a standard part of Windows XP. I suppose that this might become standard with Windows XP SP3, but I don't know that for sure.

Marketing Mush

Blog I was a little dismayed to see that they think the best way to use Windows (any version back to and including XP) is to have the system come up from "sleep" mode. Currently DebbieToo (a Celeron) and SugarBear (a P3) both boot up faster than Windows...

To Err, Is Human

Blog Comment My investigation of VMs was a touchstone I used to compare XP Pro SP3 with Vista Business Edition SP1. Later the project I delivered used VS2005 Pro and it works well on XP Pro but NOT on Vista. It is extremely obvious that Vista is at least 20...

Ya Need XP Service Pack 3? Yeah Buddy. I Got Ya Servicepack3 Right Here!

Blog Comment To use "Micro-Speak", the TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) for XP just went up for everybody that has been applying ISOs or approved and managed patches to SP2 prior to SP3. They were pulled off the SP3 project probably 3 or 4 years ago and told they...

Microsoft's Mojave Just A Desert Vista

Blog Comment Microsoft studies have shown that Windows Vista users are 60% less likely to be infected by malware than users running Windows XP SP2. I don't meant to nit-pick but considering that Service pack 2 for XP was released just over 4 years ago, I wonder...

Acer One Runs Vista! But Not For Long.

Blog I've been doing some work for a reseller of late and one of the items that I came across was a 4 gb Acer one net book with an install of vista running. Anyway I didn't know how they got vista on there so I checked the many forums on the subject and...

Spoke Too Soon About XP SP3?

Blog Comment Incidentally, I only installed XP Pro SP2 on 23rd December as a downgrade from Vista Home Premium. In conclusion, It appears that if I wish to Install XP SP3 at any time in the future, I will have to do a clean install unless MS can fix whatever...

... But Still A Few Things Amiss (with Vista)

Blog Comment All this giving 'Vista another chance' was great when I didn't have a system already set up which does everything I want it to, but wasting hours reconfiguring an installation only to find out there isn't a driver or something is less robust than...

Gartner: Ignore Vista Until 2008

Talkback I do agree with your main point, though; Vista isn't a super-patched version of XP. XP is NT 5.1, 2003 is NT 5.2, and Vista is NT 6.0. People who think it's just XP SP3 or XP with a new face are quite wrong.
