Talkback And anyway WMP is free so why would you want to buy RealPlayer to get almost similar features of WMP. At least with WMP 10 you get a full equaliser for free. I’m not a Microsoft fan but by far WMP 10 is the best media player out of its rivals.

Pricing Scuppers Media Player-free XP

Talkback Since practically all the most popular films are American, plus practically all major web news sites and portals like Yahoo, Msnbc, Fox news et al are using WMP exlusively, how exactly does the EU propose to stop WMP from dominating?

Media Player Row: Will The EU Read Between The Lines?

News In the case of media players, the EU is intensely interested in the assumption that when a default media playing technology, such as WMP, exists in Windows, end users will establish a preference for that media player.

Monti's Verdict On Microsoft - Blow By Blow

News Microsoft retains the right to offer a version of its Windows client PC operating system product with WMP. In particular, it must not give PC manufacturers a discount conditional on their buying Windows together with WMP.

Microsoft EC Appeal To Be Heard In April

Talkback Several years have gone by and WMP-based formats are spread, so rubbing out competition. Should the EU decision have any teeth it will be too little and too late. Same old delay tactics again and again.

Pricing Scuppers Media Player-free XP

Talkback The Bush Administration did NOT force PC makers to put Linux on their severs, nor did they force Microsoft to take out WMP nor did they dictate what should and shouldn't go into software design like the EU is doing.

EC: A Q&A On The Microsoft Decision

News What happens if Microsoft does not disclose the specified information or offer a version of Windows without WMP within the deadlines outlined by the Commission? Is the Commission's case in line with US law as far as unbundling of the WMP is concerned?

High Noon For Microsoft In EU Battle

Talkback To the chap who said WMP is free - why do you think it is free? Consider that, and all the illegal business practices we know MS inflicted and you begin to get some idea of why the EU is taking this action.

High Noon For Microsoft In EU Battle

Talkback They should just force Microsoft to include other players with XP or make WMP work with other codec’s. I just don’t see why this matters to the EU so much. How much will it cost the EU? Where’s the $5M going to go?

Big Guns Line Up Against Microsoft

Talkback Personally I like Microsoft they're doing loads of R&D outside of instant profit making IT ideas like cures for Aids etc.and I like WMP, I also find WinXP is pretty compliant when I designate Firefox as my browser of choice.

Microsoft Prepares Scaled-down Windows For Europe

Talkback This would seem like an important part of placing WMP on an equal footing with its competitors. That would just be plain silly, unless it's MS's intent to sell as few copies of this new version while still being seen to comply with the EU's Ruling.

EU Ruling Already Too Late?

Talkback I personally think that RealOne and all of the Real software applications are jokes, and bundling WMP with Windows is the best option, because the application is so much better and can do so much more for a normal home user.

Microsoft Awaits Punitive EU Judgment

Talkback If WMP wasnt bundled with Windows would we have to pay MS even more money to have the same as what we have now? ie £xxx.00 for Windows PLUS £xx.00 for WMP as opposed to the one price for the bundled lot?

Microsoft Awaits Punitive EU Judgment

Talkback If you don't like WMP, run Real Player or QuickTime. I would second the other point that WMP is actually not a bad media player and that this also may have had some effect in its market share as well as the bundling with os

High Noon For Microsoft In EU Battle

Talkback If it's ok in your eyes that overseas companies can write their own laws in Europa and basicly do as they please then I understand why you can't see a problem with packaged deals, like WMP, forced upon you just to kill the competition (and thus...
